Our calendar for Spring/Summer craft fairs is almost complete and will be published here during March 2010.
Coming soon - weaving looms
In recognition of the ever growing interest in hand crafted creations , we at Marias Workshop are very proud to announce that we will shortly be adding a range of high quality weaving looms and accessories to buy through our site.
The ancient art of Weaving is a technique by which two sets of yarns (or threads) are woven (or tied together) to form a fabric or cloth. These two yarns are defined as the warp (which runs length-ways) and the weft (which runs across the cloth).
The cloth is woven on a loom. This machine holds the longer warp threads in place while the weft threads are woven through them.
There are three basic weaves, which are defined by the pattern,or the way in which the warp and weft threads are interlinked. These are: -
Plain weave - a simple "criss-cross" pattern Satin weave - a high sheen technique in which multiple weft threads are used with a single warp thread Twill - a diagonal pattern is created by off-setting the warp and weft threads.
Hand-weaving is an ever popular craft, and weaving looms of differing shapes and sizes are available and affordable for both the hobbyist and serious enthusiast. Look out for our forthcoming range of weaving looms designed to enable you to produce wonderful cloth.
